Biography of Albert A. Reichert
Albert Alvin Reichert was born in Illinois on August 9, 1876. His father, Francis J. Reichert, was a Presbyterian minister. In the 1880s, Albert Reichert's parents emigrated to Pottawatomie County, Kansas. They were living in the community of Holton, Kansas in 1898, when Albert Reichert joined Company D of the 22nd Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Spanish-American War. During 1898, he was posted at Camp Alger, Virginia; Camp Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia; and Camp Meade, Pennsylvania.
Following the war, Reichert worked as a dry goods salesman at Corning (Nemaha County), Kansas. In 1901, he married Corning resident Myrtle Winifred Slocum, daughter of Willis and Alice M. Slocum. The Reicherts' son Carroll was born in 1906. From 1905 to 1917, the Reicherts lived in Marshall County, Kansas, where Reichert operated a photography studio. In 1917, they returned to Nemaha County, living at Seneca, where Reichert was a rural mail carrier, was later in the hotel business, and worked from 1925 to 1932 as an insurance agent. He died in 1963.
