Overview

The Twentieth Century Club was formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1895. A women's club, the stated purpose was "the mental advancement of its members." Community projects became one of the group's primary interests. In recent years, the club has supported the Red Cross, Watkins Community Museum of History, the Lawrence Chamber Players and Audio Reader. This collection contains Club histories, as well as meeting minutes, annual Club programs, and correspondence.

Two literary manuscripts by Mademoiselle de Lubert

Marie-Madeleine de Lubert (1702-1785), whose published books identify her more formally as Mlle (Mademoiselle) de Lubert, was the author of about a dozen contes de fées (fairy stories). The two texts in the volume in this collection, "Les événements comiques conte" and "Chélidonide histoire grecque," are unpublished literary manuscripts attributed to Mlle de Lubert.

Tyburn Gallows list of executions

(Incomplete?) list of executions conducted at the Tyburn gallows in England for the years 1731 and 1732. The list consists of three pages and a fragment; the list provides names, dates of execution, and sometimes the offense committed. The list notes that an experiment was made on a criminal in 1731: "pierce Tympanum and test hearing." The list may have been made for "Dr. Cotton"(?).
