Letter to John William Donaldson
Charles Hughes Terrot (1790-1872), a Scottish Episcopal bishop of Edinburgh, was also a mathematician and a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for 14 years. In this letter, Terrot writes to John William Donaldson (1811-1861), a philologist. Terrot shares some mathematical notations and equations and asks Donaldson to contribute a literary paper for the Transactions of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Letter to Madame da Horta
D. Serpa Arevedo writes to Madame da Horta about a wonderful reception in Lisbon by the Queen [Maria II, 1819-1853] and King [Ferdinand, 1816-1885] and the common people. The writer confirms that the two dresses from Madame da Horta have been delivered to the Marchioness of Fronteira [D. Maria Constanca da Camara, 1801-1860] and to the Countess of Thomar [Luisa Mitchell Meredith Read, 1816-?] and that they are appreciative of the gifts.
Letter to Madame la Comtesse de Renty
This note was written by an amanuensis at Versailles, France, and pencilled notes indicate that it is signed by the Marquis de Castries (1727-1801) when he was Marechal de France. The letter is sent to Madame la Comtesse de Renty at the Convent de la Roquette, Faubourg, St. Antoine in Paris and is an acknowledgement of her request for payments, which are in arrears, and instructs her how and where she may receive what is due her.

John Lobb writes to Mr. and Mrs. Thrower, who seem to be away on holiday, from London, England. Lobb thanks the Throwers for the papers and telegram and notes the birth of a baby. Lobb also remarks that he is very busy at the Board's stores with school material and has to do much of his useless brother's work too. He offers that if he were with the Throwers they would have had a drink with the Lord Mayor. The stationery letterhead is printed "Carlton House, Victoria Park Road N.E."

Letter to Mr. Smith and Mr. Nicol, Jr.
Peter Oluf Brøndsted (1780-1842), an archeologist and scholar of Greek antiquities, writes to his publishers, Mr. Smith and Mr. Nicol, Jr. of the firm of George and William Nicol on Pall Mall Street, London. Brøndsted says he is enclosing a sketch and gives instructions for composition and printing, probably for the publication of The Bronzes of Siris now in the British Museum; an archaeological essay. The sketch mentioned is not included with this letter.
