Card files
Scope and Contents
This series contains a number of different index card files kept by the Governor's Office. It includes a file of the names and addresses of supporters, a file of speeches by the governor and his staff, as well as an invitation index as described below.
The original invitation files (15 boxes) were destroyed as non-desirable to process and preserve. The files contained correspondence from private citizens, charitable groups, local governments, Republican county committees, other states, etc. asking the governor to please come to a certain function on a certain date. Such requests numbered in the thousands. Most were graciously declined. These papers still contain the elaborate index card files which kept a record of all such requests sent to the governor, and especially those accepted.
